AWEPA

The Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa (AWEPA) works in co-operation with African parliaments to strengthen parliamentary democracy in Africa, keep Africa high on the political agenda in Europe, and facilitate African-European parliamentary dialogue. Thematic programmes include aid effectiveness, climate change, private sector development and HIV/AIDS and orphans. A current five year programme with NEPAD is working to increase parliamentary action in Africa towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Around 1,500 parliamentarians in Europe are members of AWEPA, which has its headquarters in The Netherlands and 9 offices in Africa, including South Africa (Cape Town).
