Call for Expressions of Interest to Conduct Baseline Study

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is a partnership of The Rockefeller Foundation and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) working with African governments, other donors, NGOs, the private sector and African farmers to significantly and sustainably improve the productivity and incomes of resource poor farmers in Africa.

AGRA’s vision is of a food secure and prosperous Africa achieved through rapid, sustainable agricultural growth based on smallholder farmers who produce the staple food crops of Africa.

AGRA is planning to conduct a baseline study in its 13 countries (Mali, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Niger, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique) of operation. The aim of the study is to provide an analysis describing the situation prior to AGRA’s intervention, against which progress will be assessed. The assignment will be clustered according to region i.e. Eastern, Western and Southern Africa.

The purpose of this call for expressions of interest (EOI) is to identify, after a selection process, lists of potential consultancy firms/ institutions that will subsequently be availed the detailed terms of reference and invited to submit proposals. The consultant will design and conduct a multi-dimensional baseline study. The study will include qualitative and quantitative approaches with a variety of primary and secondary data sources including participatory methods.

The lists resulting from this notice will also be used in future for survey studies and consultancy services in line with AGRA’s monitoring and evaluation function.

If interested in undertaking the task, please make a submission describing in a maximum of 4,000 words or 8 pages (single spaced), including your vision and mission, current and future research areas and significant achievements. We encourage you to submit the information you consider important. Supporting documents submitted should include mandatory institutional documents such as incorporation papers and most recent financial statements; up to three research outputs; and optional documents such as annual reports.
