Good morning and I too would like to welcome you all to the first African Green Revolution Forum to be held in Africa. And I would like to thank President Mills for the excellent Ghanaian hospitality that I know we will all experience over the next few days. But while we will be enjoying our surroundings and the good company of old colleagues and new contacts, we have a great deal of work to do.

It gives me great honor and pleasure to take part in the deliberations of this Congress of Cameroonian Professionals and contribute to the reflection on agricultural development in Africa and Cameroon. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Cameroon Professional Society for inviting me to address this impressive gathering. You are all testimony to the diverse talent that our beloved nation has produced. I applaud the efforts of the Cameroon Professional Society here in the United States to bring together so many individuals who have come to this country to succeed in many areas of business and education, and to provide you with a platform for dialogue and cooperation, as well as a vehicle to help you promote the economic and social development of the Cameroon nation.

A Green Revolution for Africa: Fulfilling the Borlaug Dream

It is such an honor and a great privilege for me to address this distinguished forum today, for it is indeed a very special gathering in honour of a very special man. President Carter, I was moved by your tribute to Dr. Borlaug. Listening to you talk, I was overcome again with the sadness of losing a man outstanding is so many ways – a famous scientist, a visionary, a friend, mentor and, of course, the father of the Green Revolution.

Mobilising Parliamentary Action towards Agriculture, Food Security and Development in Africa

AGRA and the Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa (AWEPA) launched a new partnership today to support African parliamentarians as they promote policies to help smallholder farmers make the transition from subsistence to market-oriented agriculture, a change that will require a comprehensive transformation of Africa’s agricultural system. Prior to signing the agreement, Dr Akin Adesina delivered a speech to participants of the 25th anniversary of AWEPA, calling on Parliaments all across Africa to join in support of African farmers.
