At a time when failing harvests are once again threatening the lives and livelihoods of millions across Africa, 300 agriculture scientists, entrepreneurs, farmers’ organizations and governments from across the continent have gathered to accelerate a massive effort to develop and deploy higher-yield, disease and drought resistant crop varieties of Africa’s most important food crops.
Mobilising Parliamentary Action towards Agriculture, Food Security and Development in Africa
AGRA and the Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa (AWEPA) launched a new partnership today to support African parliamentarians as they promote policies to help smallholder farmers make the transition from subsistence to market-oriented agriculture, a change that will require a comprehensive transformation of Africa’s agricultural system. Prior to signing the agreement, Dr Akin Adesina delivered a speech to participants of the 25th anniversary of AWEPA, calling on Parliaments all across Africa to join in support of African farmers.

Grieving the Death and Celebrating the Life of Dr Norman Borlaug
The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa grieves the passing of Dr Norman Borlaug, the father of the Green Revolution and an infinite source of inspiration in the cause of ending hunger and poverty. We celebrate his life, his dedicated work and passionate resolve. It was through Dr Borlaug’s efforts that farmers across much of Asia and Latin America were able to grow enough food to avert famine and save the lives of hundreds of millions of people.
Father of 'Green Revolution' Dies
Wall Street Journal (USA)Nobel Peace laureate Norman E. Borlaug, whose breeding of crops for poor farmers led to Asia's famine-defusing Green Revolution four decades ago, died Saturday night after a long battle with cancer. He was 95. Earlier this decade, as the number of hungry began to swell again, Dr. Borlaug saw his ideas gain renewed traction. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation allied with the Rockefeller Foundation to form the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa.
Africa can beat poverty, says Equity chairman
Daily Nation (Kenya)Equity Bank’s Peter Munga spoke in Olso, Norway after receiving the Yara prize for his role in transforming small scale agriculture in Africa. The awards were organised by the Yara Foundation whose objective is to support former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s call for an African green revolution and the UN Millennium Project’s goal of halving poverty and hunger in Africa by 2015.
